David Gilmour

Guitar and Vocals

David Gilmour was given the responsibility of replacing the great Syd Barrett as front man of Pink Floyd. Although after Syd, the band never had a clear front man, Roger Waters took on part of that burden too. This eventually led to the band's collapse.

David Gilmour was born on March 6, 1946 in Cambridge, England. Gilmour attended The Perse School, which is a secondary school for boys 11-18, where he met Syd who attended a school on the same road.

When he first joined the band, Gilmour just filled in when Barrett was unable to perform, but after awhile the other members tired of Syd's erratic behavior and didn't pick him up one day before a gig.

The Dark Side Of The Moon was essentially the only album the band made that everyone could agree upon. David and Roger had such differing views on good music that they couldn't find a happy medium to make it work. The albums from then on were either David's creation or Roger's.
