Did you ever see yourself years ago as a science teacher?
MANY years ago, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, when I learned in college that veterinary school was harder to get into than medical school, I abandoned the veterinary dreams and got married instead.
What do you find to be the most rewarding thing about teaching?
The most rewarding things about teaching are the times when a student says, "Oh! I get it now!" and when kids make me laugh.
How long have you been a teacher?
I have been a paid teacher since 1996, when I started my job at alternative ed.
How long have you been a faculty member of Houlton High School?
I have been a faculty member of HHS since 2003.
What encouraged you to be a teacher?
I became a teacher because I like teenagers and because I like the vacations that teaching offers.
What classes do you teach?
I currently teach biology to freshmen, introduction to physics and chemistry to sophomores, and earth science to juniors.
Has science always been a main interest of yours?
I have always loved science! Science is an orderly way to answer questions.
Other than science what are some of your other interests and hobbies?
My other interests include working in my garden, cooking, watching my kids play sports, and traveling.
